In the painting the senses are represented by women and children engaged in some activity associated with a particular sense. Sight is associated with gazing in a mirror. Hearing is associated with music. Taste has a fruit, and smell has a bunch of flowers.Touch has a bird perched on her raised hand. These are the traditionally accepted senses.
